The show “Tarotpia” by China Faith Star open @leiminspace on the night of Saturday October 3rd, 2015 from 6pm to 9pm.

The Show will remain on view until October 31st, 2015. 

     @leiminspace is proud to present the work of Olympia artist, China Faith Star in her solo show “Tarotpia”. “Tarotpia” proffers tokens of Star’s own meditation upon the Tarot, focusing mainly on the journey of The Fool. Central to the works, is Star's eight minute, 24 FPS hand-drawn animation, also entitled “Tarotpia”, which will be screened from the 2nd story of the space during the opening reception. The animation depicts Star’s perspective on the Major Arcana; a vision of the world as functioning in cycles versus dualities. 

     The bulk of the remaining work includes assemblages of the colorfully hand-drawn cutouts used in Star’s animation process. Guided by intuition and opportunity, the collaged and hand-sewn pieces are composed in a process which Star feels echoes the practice of divination. In this process, Star acts as the medium by which her cutouts of figures and symbols may arrange themselves. The results are kaleidoscopic arrays of color, pattern, and symbol with a handmade texture that allows them to function as both image and craft.
